Coastal Funeral Center continues the Gamby legacy by embracing the Lomita and South Bay community.

After striking oil in 1923, Lomita became a thriving farm town ripe with fruit trees, egg farms, and cattle ranches. Known as the “Celery Capital of the World,” Lomita was home to a number of family-run businesses including the A.M. Gamby Mortuary founded in 1936 by A. Monroe and Evabell Gamby.

Gamby Mortuary established its roots in Lomita and expanded their business to neighboring cities by providing a family-owned and operated mortuary and funeral home. Their mission was to bring compassionate, personalized services and support to Lomita families dealing with the loss of a loved one.

After the passing of A. Monroe Gamby in 1944, his wife Evabell continued the tradition of providing peace and comfort to the funeral process. The staff became a beloved part of the Lomita family providing dedicated services to the small but mighty town.

Amongst the larger neighboring cities, Lomita took pride in their family-run businesses like Gamby Mortuary and those values are still upheld to this day.

For over 80 years, the team at Gamby Mortuary delivered on their promise to Lomita by providing affordable and personalized care for families dealing with a loss. With such deep roots embedded in the history of Lomita, Gamby Mortuary made an impact and left a legacy of expert funeral services.

The Evolution From Gamby to Coastal Funeral Center

In 2018, Gamby Mortuary became Coastal Funeral Center under the parent company Green Hills Memorial Park to better serve the community of the South Bay and Palos Verdes Peninsula. This transition allowed for expanded services as an all-inclusive facility and built on the successes of Green Hills Memorial Park

Upgraded from its original mission-style facade, the new coastal atmosphere allows families to experience a soothing space conducive to healing. The exterior is bright and vibrant while the interior represents South Bay beach vibes and the healing nature of water.

Coastal Funeral Center strives to uphold Gamby’s mission of being dedicated guardians of family and community.  The experienced team at Coastal has worked closely together to enhance their mission of Embracing the Community
